WINNIPEG — Police say a stabbing incident involving an X-acto knife inside a Charleswood area school does not appear to be criminal.

Westdale Junior High went into lock down at 2:45 p.m.CT after an incident involving two students in the wood shop.

Police say a 14-year-old male student was injured and taken to hospital, but has since been released from hospital with minor injuries

The Pembina Trails School Division Superintendent tells Global News the lockdown has since been lifted.  He acknowledged reports the two boys had been ‘horsing around’ when one was injured but said the incident was still under investigation.

Winnipeg police said via Twitter just before 7:30 p.m. that a subsequent investigation indicated the event may have been the result of horseplay “involving some negligence.”

Police said the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature and all parties are cooperating.
