Divers search pond for evidence in Colton Crowshoe homicide

CALGARY – Police searched a pond in the community of Abbeydale on Monday as part of their investigation into the murder of 18-year-old Colton Crowshoe.

The teen’s lifeless body was pulled from the northeast drainage pond in July 2014, three weeks after he was reported missing.

Divers from the Calgary Fire Department’s Aquatic Rescue Team entered the pond, located near Stoney Trail, at around 10 a.m.

“We’re taking another look to see if we can come up with further evidence,” explained Homicide Unit Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm.

“It’s been over a year now,” added Chisholm. “We want to take a new look at the investigation, see if we [can] come across anything that we didn’t have before.”

Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department said conditions for Monday’s dive weren’t ideal.

“It’s overcast, which does make visually seeing things a little more difficult, so what they’re going to be doing is going by feel.”

“Our divers are very well trained, and they will do a complete search of the area that they have been tasked with.”

Crowshoe was last seen alive by friends in Abbeydale between 2:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2014.

An ASIRT investigation is underway, examining the interactions Crowshoe had with police before he went missing, as well as the conduct of police during his missing persons investigation.

“I want to know the truth,” said Colton’s Father, Jimmy Crowshoe, while observing the search on Monday. “It hurts me every day, it hurts me so much.”

“It’s frustrating,” added Tanya Johnston, Colton’s aunt.

“We don’t know what happened here, how Colton ended up here, who brought him here, if there is evidence there.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.
