Saskatchewan gives money to help Syrian refugees

REGINA – The Saskatchewan government is putting up $150,000 to help support Syrian refugees. Premier Brad Wall says the province will work with settlement groups and private agencies to determine how best to use the money.

He also says he hopes the province will be able to take in more refugees on a regular basis.

Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec and Manitoba previously announced funding to help Syrian refugees.

There have been calls for the federal government to do more to helpsince the drowning deaths of two young Syrian boys and their mother, who apparently wanted to join family in B.C.

Millions have fled the war-ravaged country since 2011, but fewer than 2,400 have been resettled in Canada over the last two years.
