‘80s band Survivor angered by Kim Davis’ use of ‘Eye of the Tiger’

Kim Davis, the embattled Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, did her time and took her chances — but now is being eyed by a tiger.

Davis was released Tuesday after serving five days in jail on contempt charges for refusing to issue marriage licences.

Face to face, out in the heat, Davis walked out of the Carter County Detention Center’s front door Tuesday with her lawyer and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee as thousands of supporters cheered and waved white crosses.

“I just want to give God the glory. His people have rallied, and you are a strong people,” the clerk told the crowd after stepping outside, her arms raised like a victorious boxer, to the blaring Rocky-sequel theme song “Eye of the Tiger” by ’80s band Survivor.

But, Survivor did not grant rights to Davis to use the band’s hit song.

Frankie Sullivan, co-writer of the hit song, took to Facebook to condemn Davis’ use of “Eye of the Tiger.”

“NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use “My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger,” Sullivan wrote. “I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that – See Ya really SoooooooonnnnnnN!!!!!!…”

In a statement to Billboard, Survivor’s founding member Jim Peterik said he was “surprised and dismayed at the misuse of the song.”

“The song has motivated thousands through the years to reach beyond their limits. Its use for the release of Kim Davis does not support my views or my politics,” Peterik said.

According to TMZ, the group is considering a lawsuit.

Perhaps it’s the thrill of the fight.
