STARS helps locate missing Saskatchewan hunter

STARS air ambulance is usually used to transport patients to hospital. On Tuesday evening, they helped locate a missing Saskatchewan hunter.

The 89-year-old man left home that morning to go hunting near the Sweetgrass First Nation. Family members became concerned when he didn’t return home and reported him missing to Battlefords RCMP just before 9 p.m.

Mounties started searching for the man but the recent rains and dense brush made some roads and trails impassible.

STARS in Saskatoon were contacted to see if they could provide air assistance and the helicopter joined in the search within an hour.

The man was located by STARS just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday northeast of the First Nation.

He was loaded onto the helicopter and taken to the North Battleford Airport where he was assessed and released in very good medical condition.
