50 kilos of Khat seized at Edmonton International Airport

Two British travelers have been sent back to UK after two suitcases filled with an illegal drug were seized at the Edmonton International Airport Wednesday.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says two men in their 40’s were arrested when 50 kilograms of the drug Khat were brought in on a flight from Britain.

Khat is a plant that can be chewed for its amphetamine-like stimulant.

Lisa White of the CBSA says she believes the men’s final destination was Fort McMurray.

She says the seizure came after an anonymous tip was made to the CBSA.

The investigation into the seizure continues. Meanwhile, the men, who are British Nationals, may face charges.
