Burnaby man dies after falling from cliff northeast of Agassiz

A 26-year-old Burnaby man lost his life after accidentally falling from a cliff while climbing to Rainbow Falls on East Harrison Forest Service Road on Saturday.

Agassiz RCMP Sgt. Darren Rennie said there were four young men camping at Cogburn Beach when one of them tried to climb to the waterfall and accidentally fell from the cliff into the river. Another man from the group tried to climb down to his fallen friend but became trapped on the cliff.

Mounties along with the Kent Harrison Search and Rescue crew responded to the scene and rescued the stranded man from the cliff. He was uninjured, while the man who had fallen from the cliff had died of his injuries.

The BC Coroner Service and police are continuing to investigate the death.

Foul play is not suspected.
