WATCH: Premier Christy Clark announces additional help for Syrian refugees who arrive in B.C. John Hua reports
Premier Christy Clark has announced one million dollars to support Syrian refugees coming to British Columbia.
Clark says it is not good enough to open our doors, we must also help refugees integrate seamlessly into Canadian life.
She says the money will be used to ensure the new residents are successful here.
The cash will be handed out in collaboration with community agencies.
Tima Kurdi, the aunt of Alan Kurdi who was found dead on a beach in Turkey last week said she is surprised by the announcement from Clark today because no one from the premier’s office has ever called her.
She said any money should go to funding refugees’ efforts to come to Canada.
More to come.
