Mouldy school means delayed opening for some Halifax students

Crews are cleaning mould from several areas of Brookside Junior High. Halifax Regional School Board

HALIFAX – Brookside Junior High to remain closed for now.

The Halifax Regional School Board says Brookside Junior High will not be opening until at least Thursday, September 10.

The board says crews have been working in the school since August 24 to clean mould from the first and second floors of the building, but they need more time for the cleanup.

Students and staff will be relocated until the school is ready to re-open.

Starting on Tuesday, September 28, the school board says grade 6 students will be relocated to the Terence Bay site of Atlantic Memorial – Terence Bay Elementary.

Grades 7 to 9 students enrolled in French Immersion will be relocated to Five Bridges Junior High. Students in the English program from grades 7-9 will attend Rocky Lake Junior High.

Bus schedules are currently being developed and the school board says they will be posted on the website over the weekend.

The school itself will also communicate directly with Brookside parents about the changes.
