Motorcyclist taken to hospital after colliding with train near Edson

EDMONTON — A 26-year-old man is in life-threatening condition after a motorcycle collided with a train east of Edson Sunday afternoon.

RCMP said the incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Range Road 154 near Township Road 542.

Investigators said the motorcycle struck the back of the front engine of the westbound train. The motorcyclist, who is from Edson, was taken to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton with life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. RCMP said the railway crossing lights and sirens were fully operational at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
