WINNIPEG- Winnipeggers dove into a cultural experience without ever leaving their city this weekend. On Sunday the 7th annual Chinatown Street Festival wrapped up after a successful weekend. The fest started Friday evening turning King Street between James Ave. and Alexander Ave. into a cultural district.
“We love seeing the streets of Chinatown come alive,” Said Tina Chen, an organizer of the festival.
The event featured music, traditional dancing and kung fu demonstrations. There was also no shortage of food as many of Winnipeg’s food trucks lined the area.
For the first time at the festival a night market drew in an even bigger crowd, continuing the food and fun as well as screening movies on a giant screen.
“We had a fantastic turnout yesterday I would say there was never less than a few hundred people out so we’re really excited,” said Chen. The organizers plan to have the street market a part of the festival again next year.
