WINNIPEG – An elderly male has died after being pulled from the Red River near the Norwood Bridge.

Rescue crews said they received a call about a missing person around 10:30 a.m. when the male was supposed to meet a few friends to go fishing. The friends found his fishing gear on the docks and saw his hat floating in the water when they decided to make the call. The rescue team discovered the man shortly after finding his walker floating in the river.

“The gentleman was down on the dock and we don’t know the circumstances which entailed for him to end up in the water. I am sure the police are investigating that at this time,” said Frank Leswick, platoon chief.

Paramedics were also on scene. The male was brought to hospital in critical condition. Police continue to investigate.
