SASKATOON – Poor air quality over parts of southern and western Saskatchewan has prompted Environment Canada to issue a special air quality statement. The agency says forest fire smoke traveling in from the northwestern United States is reducing visibilities and creating poor air quality across the region.

Throughout the early part of the week, smoke moved in over parts of the province, but in most cases was not mixing down to the ground due to a stable atmospheric setup.

The smoke aloft resulted in a hazy sky over Saskatoon and a noticeable deep orange coloured sun during the morning and evening hours.

Thursday afternoon Environment Canada says air quality over southern and western Saskatchewan is now poor as a result of the smoke that has made its way to the ground.
