SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Rush are recruiting a dance team to help cheer on the team. For their upcoming National Lacrosse League (NLL) season, the franchise is trying to assemble a new squad of 15 enthusiastic women to be known as “The Crush.”

The Saskatoon-based lacrosse club has started its search and is trying to get as many local talent out as possible for tryouts.

“We are looking for women who are very vibrant, lots of energy, love to perform and women who are enthusiastic about this opportunity,” said Andrea Haughian, the Rush’s vice-president of marketing and partnerships.

Haughian says Saskatoon-area women are preferred due to travel and commitment purposes but tryouts are open to any dancer across the province who’s willing to make it work.

The Crush will be featured at all home games at SaskTel Centre. It’s unknown if they’ll travel for away game; that will depend on the schedule and playoffs.

“They’re tremendous ambassadors for our club and having them out at the different community events and sponsor events and charitable golf tournaments. The girls are just fantastic representations of our entire organization,” said Haughian.

“These women are tireless volunteers who give up a lot of their free time. They practice two to three times a week and then obviously we have a home game about once every two weeks during the months of January to April.”

Haughian says it’s a volunteer position but dancers are compensated in other ways.

“We’ll certainly make it worthwhile for the girls,” said Haughian.

“There’s perks, a lot of benefits from being tied to a professional sports team, obviously they’ll be some exciting travel, some partnership opportunities for the women and it’s a great venue for the women to be able to perform in front of thousands of fans for a very exciting team.”

Right now, the franchise is finalizing the selection of a dance choreographer. The audition process will begin near the end of September.

Applicants must be 19 years of age and can email resumes to myrna@saskrush.com.
