Homicide detectives investigating death of woman in central Edmonton

WATCH ABOVE: For the second time in less than a week, homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death. Quinn Ohler reports.

EDMONTON – Homicide detectives were called to the scene of a suspicious death in an apartment building in Edmonton’s Central McDougall neighbourhood on Tuesday.

Police responded to the three-storey building at 106 Avenue and 104 Street around 9:20 a.m. Officers found a woman dead inside her suite on the third floor.

“She didn’t show up for work this week and a concerned co-worker showed up today to check on her and found her deceased,” said EPS Staff Sgt. Bill Clark.

“This is very suspicious.”

“While we have a very good idea of what has caused her death, we won’t be commenting on that at this time,” said Clark.

Clark said police have not found any connection between this death and others in the area.

“I know there are concerns about the number of women who’ve been killed in Edmonton this year,” added Clark. “It’s an inordinately high number compared to previous years.

“I can tell you that right now we have no connections on any of the homicides at all. These are all, so far, individual acts. We have nothing to say that this death is connected in any way to any of the others or any of the other ones found in this area.”
