WINNIPEG – Music filled Winnipeg’s Exchange District as the BBQ and Blues Festival kicked off Friday night.
Hundreds of Manitobans danced and sang along to the smooth tunes while enjoying barbeque, brews and other entertainment until midnight.
Many crowded in to the Burton Cummings theatre to see Big Sugar, who stole the show Friday. David Wilcox will headline on Saturday night.
The outdoor stage will include bands such as The Noble Thiefs and The Perpetrators.
The renowned Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned competition kicks off Saturday with a $10,000 cash purse up for grabs. This is open to both amateurs and professionals.
Fans sample food fresh off the grill and vote for their favourite Sunday to determine the winner.
For $10 you can also get a plate of up to five different delectable meats and vote for your favourite.

The festival runs until Saturday night at the corner of Smith and Ellice.
The indoor shows will run rain or shine and there are still tickets available for the shows.
The outdoor shows will be decided later depending on the weather, tickets are still available for those as well.
