TORONTO – Footage released by the Russian Geographical Society on Thursday gives us a unique look at a place most of us normally hope to avoid: the inside of a bear’s mouth.
The footage was shot inside Russia’s South Kamchatka Nature Sanctuary on the banks of Kurile Lake.
Around this time of year, the salmon spawn in the lake draws hundreds of bears to the lake’s shores to feed. Photographer / videographer Dmitry Shpilenok set up a GoPro camera in the hopes of catching one of the brown bears fishing for food.
Of course, he probably wasn’t thinking his camera would become the snack of choice for one particularly curious brown bear.
Established in 1934, the reserve is one of Russia’s foremost nature preserves and is a hub of scientific and environmental research.
