Gourmet burger chain to be added to MTY Food’s menu

MONTREAL – MTY Food Group Inc. (TSX: MTY) will soon be adding Big Smoke Burger to its menu of restaurant chains.

The Montreal-based owner of numerous restaurant brands said it will pay $3 million cash for 60 per cent of Big Smoke, which is in the “gourmet” segment of the burger business.

Big Smoke currently has 17 locations in Canada, the United States and the Persian Gulf region.

Its founder Mustafa Yusuf will continue to own 40 per cent of the company and continue his functions after the deal closes.

MTY has an extensive list of quick service restaurant brands including: Tiki Ming, Thai Express, Jugo Juice, Sukiyaki, Cultures, Vanellis, Manchu Wok, Villa Madina and Country Style.

It expects the deal to close in September.
