An Edmonton woman is warning Kenmore oven owners to watch out for exploding glass.
Joyce Wilk was shocked when she heard a boom from her kitchen. She ran to see and found shattered glass all over her kitchen and into the living room.
Despite the oven not being in use in 4 days, the outer glass door on her oven had shattered.
“I’m still picking up pieces of glass,” she says, “yesterday I was sweeping and I found another piece of glass.”

“I’m glad (my grandson) wasn’t here that morning because he has a jolly jumper just a few feet away. I’m sure some of the glass would have flown and hit him. It’s scary.”
When she contacted Sears she was told the glass was not part of the extended warranty because it was cosmetic, but she was told not to use the oven because it might not be safe.
“kind of thought to myself, if it’s cosmetic why can’t I use the oven. He said don’t use it, it’s not safe.”
It’s not a rare case it seems. A quick Google search for exploding oven door reveals several forums of customers complaining of the same thing.
Sears has promised to cover Wilk’s glass repair but she still fears this might happen again.
In a statement to Global News, Sears says “Sears takes the safety of its customers very seriously. In the specific case of Mrs. Wilk the circumstances were such that we should have offered to repair the range without cost at the outset. We apologize that we made Mrs. Wilk wait to satisfy her request.
