A fire that began in the United States has crossed the border and has caused an evacuation alert east of Osoyoos. Residents of Nine Mile Place on Anarchist Mountain were under evacuation order, but that has now been rescinded. The evacuation alert remains in place.
Highway 3 is closed in both directions 15 kilometres east of Osoyoos at Anarchist Mountain Rest Area.
The Kamloops Fire Centre says no properties have been lost. The exact number of properties affected is unknown.
The fire is at least 150 hectares in size, 50 of which is in Canada.
It began near Oroville, Washington State, 10 kilometres south of Osoyoos. A plane crash earlier this afternoon caused the the blaze to grow.
Crews on both sides of the border are working on the fire.
It comes on the same day a massive fire near Rock Creek, 40 kilometres east of Osoyoos, has forced the evacuation of approximately 200 homes and 200 campers.
