Leafs trade defenceman Keith Aulie to Tampa Bay

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs traded defenceman Keith Aulie to the Tampa Bay Lightning for right-winger Carter Ashton on Monday.

The 22-year-old Aulie has split time between the Maple Leafs and the club’s American Hockey League affiliate this season.

The Rouleau, Sask., native has two assists in 17 games with the Leafs in 2011-12 and one assist in 23 games with the AHL Marlies.

Originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round of 2007 draft, Aulie was part of the trade that brought Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf to Toronto.

Ashton was selected 29th overall by Tampa Bay at the 2009 draft.

The 20-year-old from Winnipeg has yet to play a NHL game. In 56 games with the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals this season, Ashton has 19 goals and 16 assists.
