WATCH ABOVE: The cost of parking in Toronto is about to get a little bit steeper as Green P parking announced plans to increase prices in some of the city’s busiest lots.
TORONTO — The city’s parking authority is set to raise prices in some of its most popular lots by September 2015.
There are currently 160 “Green P” municipal parking lots that house about 20,000 spaces.
Twenty of those are garage lots have about 10,000 spaces, while the remaining 140 are surface lots with about 10,000 spots split amongst them.

One of the most expensive lots can be found at the 40 York St, just off of University Avenue Current rates are $3 per half hour, but as of Sept. 8, prices will increase to $3.50.
The lowest costing spots are found in different locations around the city.
Prices start at $0.75 per half hour.

This fall, the cost is set to increase by $0.25 to $1 per half hour. Lorne Persiko, President of the Toronto Parking Authority, says cost of parking will remain competitive with other Toronto lots.
“We are significantly lower than the private sector,” Persiko said.
“By making it affordable, people who want to visit downtown because they have meetings and they aren’t there all day, tend to go to Green P lots because they are cheaper and there is turnover.”
