Summary: This seat was vacant at the time of the election call, after two-term NDP MP Glenn Thibeault resigned to run for the provincial Liberals in a by-election.

Boundaries: This is one of two ridings serving the city of Greater Sudbury (with Nickel Belt). It sees a minor change this year to its northern boundary.

Last Election: NDP Thibeault won with 49.9 per cent of the vote, followed by Conservative Fred Slade with 28.4 per cent.

History: This riding has been around since 1949, and it has been Liberal for most of that time. The NDP held the seat for just a year after a by-election in 1967, and then it returned to the Liberals until Thibeault’s victory in 2008. Voters here have never elected a PC or Conservative MP.
