History: The riding was created prior to the 1935 election, making it one of Ontario’s oldest. From 1993 to 2004 Liberal MP John Baird Finlay held the riding, due mainly to vote splitting between the Reform/Canadian Alliance and the PC Party. Outside of that period, it has elected conservative candidates since 1953.
