Summary: The incumbent here, Conservative Wladyslaw Lizon, was elected in 2011, ending the hold the Liberal party had on this riding since it was created in 2004. His victory was a tight one, against a provincial Liberal cabinet minister, Peter Fonseca. Fonseca is running again, but the redefined boundaries for this riding could give the Conservative party a boost in 2015.
Boundaries: This riding has been redefined, to allow for the return of a Mississauga Centre riding. It now extends to further in the northeast to Eglinton Avenue, but is smaller in the southwest corner, stopping at Central Parkway.
Last Election: In 2011, Conservative Lizon earned 40 per cent of the vote, defeating Liberal Fonseca by just 1.5 per cent, or 676 votes. However, if these new boundaries were in effect in 2011, the Conservative margin of victory would have been significantly higher. The transposed vote count shows 43.5 per cent of votes were for the Conservatives, while the Liberals earned 36.2 per cent.
History: Liberal Albina Guarnieri won this seat with at least 50 per cent of the vote in 2004, 2006 and 2008. She did not re-offer in 2011.
Demographics: In the last National Household Survey, 10.6 per cent of people said they had Polish heritage, highest in Ontario.
