Federal Election 2015: Don Valley East riding results

Real time live results available on Monday, October 19 2015 after polls close. Overall results will be available here.

Summary: This riding in north Toronto is one to watch. The incumbent, Conservative Joe Daniel, scored an upset here in 2011, defeating the three-term Liberal incumbent Yasmin Ratansi. In 2015, Daniel is running in the new riding of Don Valley North, so a new Conservative candidate will try to keep the seat, while Ratansi makes an attempt to win it back. Adding to the intrigue, is a boundary change. If this was what the riding looking like in 2011, the Liberals would have kept the seat.

Boundaries: This riding has been redrawn for 2015, with part of the old riding moving into the new riding of Don Valley North. In exchange, this riding picks up part of what used to be Don Valley West.

Last Election: Conservative Daniel defeated Liberal Ratansi by 870 votes. If the current boundaries were in effect in 2011, the Liberals would have won with 38.4 per cent of the vote, followed by the Conservatives with 36.4 per cent.

History: This riding was a Liberal stronghold from 1997 until the Conservative win in 2011.

Candidates

Conservative: Maureen Harquail, lawyer

NDP: Khalid Ahmed, student

Liberal: Yasmin Ratansi, former MP

Green: Laura Sanderson, store manager, Starbucks
