History: Since it was created prior to the 1979 election, Burlington has only had three MPs: Progressive Conservative Bill Kempling from 1979 to 1993, Liberal Paddy Torsney from 1993 to 2006, and Wallace from 2006 to the present.
Provincially, the area had been held by the Progressive Conservatives from 1985 to 2014, but elected Liberal MPP Eleanor McMahon in 2014.
Demographics: 20.2 per cent of people in Burlington were seniors as of the 2011 census, the tenth highest figure in Ontario.
