WATCH (above): Officials say a python recently spotted on Burnaby Mountain is just one of many unwanted pets dumped on the mountain. Grace Ke reports.
If one of your favourite hiking spots is Burnaby Mountain, you may want to keep a watchful eye on where you’re placing your feet.
A three-foot python was spotted in the area on Monday.

While the Ball python is a non-indigenous species that is not venomous or considered dangerous, it’s unclear how the snake got to the mountain.
Officials suspect it was probably a pet that someone no longer wanted and it isn’t the first time people have dumped unwanted exotic pets on Burnaby Mountain.
“It is something that is a rarity but it happens,” said Burnaby Parks director Dave Ellenwood.
“But our advice is if you can’t handle the exotic pet, please don’t get one and please don’t dump one in our park. That’s not its natural habitat.”
The search for the snake is on-going and if you happen to spot it, please contact Burnaby SPCA.
