“This is Anna’s 10th surgery at the Shiners,” said her mom Lesley, “she’s used to waking up to familiar faces of the doctors and nurses so she was very surprised to wake up and see a very famous face.”

Lawrence signed casts, chatted with the kids and posed for photos.

O’Leary says it’s visits like this that help her daughter cope with long hours in a hospital bed.

“It’s very lonely day after day at the hospital so to have a treat like that to take pictures and be able to go home and tell their friends it really takes their mind off their surgery and focuses on something a lot more fun.”

The visit was initiated by the actress. Staff found out only minutes before that the Oscar winner would be making the rounds — and they were as surprised as the patients.

Nurse Laura Lippert said that she was stunned by the kindness of the actress, and that she took the time to talk to each child individually.

“They were talking about their hobbies, what they’re doing here, how they’re feeling. She didn’t focus on their illness at all it was more promoting their well-being through seeing what was important to them,” she said.
