EDSON, Alta. — The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is hoping to speak to anyone who may have witnessed a shooting at a provincial government building in Edson on Friday afternoon.
RCMP said Friday police shot and wounded an armed man at the Edson Provincial Courthouse.
ASIRT investigators said the man went to the courthouse to speak to a probation officer. He was visibly upset, showed signs of impairment and engaged in erratic behaviour, ASIRT said in a statement Saturday.
While with the probation officer, the man produced a weapon and threatened suicide, according to ASIRT. The man was asked to leave and the RCMP was called.
Sgt. Josee Valiquette said officers tried to make a peaceful arrest but were unsuccessful and the man was shot.
