Police identify Mississauga man as suspect in deadly Vaughan café shooting

WATCH: Police have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting at Moka Café in late June.

TORONTO — York Regional Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a 27-year-old Mississauga man wanted in connection with a shooting at a cafe in Vaughan in June.

Police said Jason Hay is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Maria Voci, 47, and Christopher Desimone, 24, both of Vaughan, at the Moka Café.

Four people were shot on the morning of June 24 after a gunman opened fire at the Moke Café, near Islington Avenue and Highway 7, in the community of Woodbridge.

Police said the two surviving victims have both been released from hospital but will not be identified in order to ensure their safety.

Hay is described by police as 6′ with a muscular build and he is considered armed and dangerous.

Police are urging Hay to seek legal counsel and turn himself in immediately.

“Citizens are reminded not to approach him and to call 9-1-1 immediately to report any sightings of the suspect,” a statement from police stated.

“Anyone who aids or assists this suspect in escaping or evading police may be subject to a criminal charge of Accessory After the Fact.”

On July 2, police said they located a stolen 2011 black Nissan Versa with licence plate BVLW 273 that was involved in the fatal shooting.

Police said the vehicle was found abandoned in a parking lot at 67 Westmore Dr. in Etobicoke.

On July 8, police said they believed a gambling operation was being run in the back of the café, but could not confirm whether or not that information was connected to the double homicide.

Police told Global News that the alleged gambling operation included card tables and electronic gambling machines such as slot machines located in the back of the café.
