Police seek witnesses after 2 dead, 2 injured in Vaughan café shooting

WATCH ABOVE: York Regional Police are searching for a suspect after two people were killed in a Vaughan café shooting. Catherine McDonald reports.

TORONTO – Two people were killed after a gunman opened fire at a café in Vaughan Wednesday morning, and police are seeking witnesses to help find the suspect.

Const. Andy Pattenden said two people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were injured after the shooting at the Moka Café in the community of Woodbridge. Police said one of the victims is in life-threatening condition.

Police responded to the shooting at 8:18 a.m. at the café on Islington Ave., south of Highway 7.

The two deceased victims have been identified by police as Maria Voci, 47, and Christopher Desimone, 24, both of Vaughan.

Police released a description of the suspect in the shooting and said he is a man with a dark complexion, who fled the scene southbound on Islington Ave. in a dark-coloured compact vehicle.

“When our officers arrived on scene, they found quite a scene here,” Pattenden said.

Pattenden said police “are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything in the area this morning, between 8 a.m. and 8:18 a.m. to please contact York Regional Police right away.”

He added that police are canvassing the area for any video surveillance.
