How the Okanagan plans to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday

KELOWNA – It would be a recreational trail connecting Kelowna with Coldstream and if all goes according to plan, it could be ready for public use just in time for Canada’s 150th birthday.

The Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative has set a goal to turn the former CN rail line between the central and north Okanagan into a cycling and hiking trail by the summer of 2017.

In April, Lake Country residents voted in a referendum approving the borrowing of $2.6 Million to help pay for part of the corridor.

The Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative group is hoping to get the green light from municipalities soon to push forward with the plans.  It has already put together a design-build committee in hopes of getting the project off the ground as soon as possible.
