TORONTO – An eight month old Siamese kitten got itself in a tricky situation. Remy the cat was visibly aggravated after being stuck in a Lawrence Park tree for more than 17 hours.
“Oh, it’s terrifying. He’s probably starving, exhausted, and his vocal chords are probably shot,” said Remy’s owner Filip Janjos.
Janjos said he had tried everything to save his cat, who ran up the tree late Wednesday night.
Janjos called 311 and a humane society but was told there was nothing they could do and that he’d have to wait until the cat came out of the tree on its own.
Even the fire department turned down his request for help.
“They didn’t want to risk an injury to one of their staff or in case there was a real emergency they didn’t want to be tied up,” said Janjos.
The overnight ordeal finally came to an end when an unassuming construction worker from a neighbour’s house heard the cat’s cries.
The worker climbed more than nine metres up a ladder and safely grabbed the cat.
“Well the cat was screaming all day long, so it needed to come down,” said the cats rescuer, Mike Montgomery.
“He bit me once on the way down but I’m fine, he’s fine, everyone’s fine.”
