SASKATOON – It was two years in the making and on Wednesday, it reopened to the public. Kinsmen Park has a brand new look as phase one of the parks’ master plan is now complete.
The updated park features a new 16 metre high ferris wheel, a zip line and a mini railroad, along with the refurbished carousel.
Some of the new features include a teepee-shaped pyramid slide, a log climbing structure and a brand new PotashCorp playland.

“We want to make this park on the north end of downtown a bit of a jewel for Saskatoon,” said Cary Humphrey, the city’s recreation and sport director.
“I think many people will be pleased to come here and spend the day. It’s a beautiful park and as we further develop the park in the years ahead, it’s going to be really fantastic for Saskatoon.”

Kinsmen Park is the city’s oldest park development, located on land first purchased in 1903. It was the early home of the Saskatoon Fair and horse race track.
A grand opening ceremony will take place on Aug. 12 at 10 a.m., which will recognize the support of PotashCorp, Canpotex, and Canadian Pacific. PotashCorp will then provide free rides and entertainment that day from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The $9.5 million project is the first of its kind in Saskatchewan.
