Summary: A riding with a new name and new boundaries, most of Long Range Mountains has been represented by Liberal MP Gerry Byrne, who is stepping down after 19 years.
Boundaries: This riding runs along the west coast of the island. 65 per cent of it is from the former Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte riding, with the rest formerly a part of Random-Burin-St. George’s.
Last Election: If this riding had existed in 2011, 55 per cent of the vote would have gone to the Liberal party, with 25 per cent going to the Conservative party.
History: Byrne had won Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte by at least 20 per cent in each of his last five victories. The area of the province between Labrador and the Avalon peninsula has exclusively elected Liberal candidates since 1980, with just one exception in 1984.
Demographics: 18.1 per cent in this riding identified as First Nations in the 2011 census, second highest in Atlantic Canada.
