Last Election: This riding broke with its long-standing tradition of electing Liberals in 2011, when voters sent Conservative Peter Penashue to Ottawa by just 79 votes over his Liberal challenger.

But in 2013, Penashue resigned amid questions about his election spending. He attempted to be re-elected in a byelection later thiat year, but voters went back to their Liberal ways, electing Yvonne Jones over Penashue by 15.6 per cent.
Demographics: 44 per cent of people in Labrador identified as Aboriginal in the 2011 census, the fifth highest number for any riding in Canada. With a population of 26,730 in the 2011 census, it’s the smallest riding in the country.
History: Peter Penashue’s victory for the Conservatives in 2011 was a close one – by just 79 votes. It broke a Liberal streak that had lasted 39 years. This region has elected just two candidates from right-wing parties since 1949.
