Federal Election 2015: Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe riding results

Summary: The smallest of New Brunswick’s ten ridings and a tight three-way race in 2011, Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe is considered a riding to watch in this election.

Boundaries: This largely urban riding is slightly smaller for 2015, with the eastern-most portion, including Lakeburn, moving into the Beausejour riding.

Last Election: Conservative Robert Goguen defeated two-term Liberal MP Brian Murphy by 4.4 per cent. The NDP candidate, Shawna Gagné, was just 3,355 votes back of Goguen.

History: The Liberal party held this seat for 23 years, until Goguen’s win in 2011. Traditionally a battle between the Liberals and Conservatives, the NDP showed a strong gain here in 2011 to make it a three-way race.

Demographics: French was the mother tongue of 33.1 per cent of people in the 2011 census, fourth highest in New Brunswick. The median age is 40.5, second lowest in New Brunswick.
