Summary: A right-wing riding for 58 of its 62 years, Conservative MP Larry Maguire will look to win his first full term in Brandon-Souris after a close 2013 byelection victory.
Boundaries: Manitoba’s southwestern rural seat, it includes the towns of Brandon, Virden, Killarney, Souris and Roblin.
Last Election: In 2011, Conservative MP Merv Tweed won his fourth straight election in convincing fashion, defeating NDP candidate Jean Luc Bouché by over 13,000 votes.
But Tweed stepped down, forcing a 2013 byelection. Conservative candidate Larry Maguire won, but only by 389 votes over Liberal candidate Rolf Dinsdale.
History: Brandon-Souris was created prior to the 1953 election, and since then, a Conservative or Progressive Conservative candidate has emerged victorious in all but one election: 1993, when Liberal Glen McKinnon squeaked out a victory.
