Federal Election 2015: Calgary Forest Lawn riding results

Summary: Conservative MP Deepak Obhrai is running for re-election in this new riding. He was first elected in 1997 in Calgary East as a Reform MP. If he wins in 2015, it will be his eighth term.

Boundaries: This new riding was carved out of central portion of the former ridings of Calgary Northeast and Calgary East. Bounded by Deerfoot Trail in the west, it extends to the eastern edge of the city. Neighbourhoods here include Sunridge, Rundle, Pineridge, Malborough Park, and the riding’s namesake, Forest Lawn.

Last Election: If this new riding existed in 2011, 63.3 per cent of votes would have gone to the Conservatives, followed by 17.5 per cent for the Liberals.

History: Both of the former ridings that make up this new riding have elected Conservative MP’s with a majority of votes since 2000, and have elected MP’s from the political right for decades.

Demographics: 35.1 per cent of residents said they were immigrants in the 2011 National Household Survey, the second highest figure in Alberta. The reported median income ($27,331) and average income ($33,458) were the lowest in the province.
