Federal Election 2015: Vancouver South riding results

Summary: A very diverse, predominately municipal riding, Vancouver South is considered a riding to watch in this year’s election.

Boundaries: A compact electoral district, Vancouver South includes all areas of the city south of 41st Avenue and east of Cambie Street.

Last Election: Wai Young defeated three-term Liberal MP and former B.C. Premier Ujjal Dosanjh by 8.7 per cent.

History: Generally a swing seat, Vancouver South had a Liberal MP from 1962 to 1972 and 1993 to 2011, and Progressive Conservative MP John Allen Fraser from 1972 to 1993.

Demographics: The number of people with English as their first language is just 30 per cent, the lowest in British Columba. There are 1.2 children per household, the third highest number in B.C. 38.8 per cent identified as Chinese in the 2011 National Household Survey, the third highest figure in the province.
