MONTREAL – How long does it take to repair a road in Montreal?

Well, it depends on which one is being fixed.

De la Cathédrale street in downtown Montreal has been closed since May 22, 2014 – or, 440 days and counting.

City officials told Global News in an email that the street is slated to reopen to traffic by next week, but were not able to provide an exact date.

A sub-contracting company repaved the road on June 25 and a worker told Global News at the time that the road could open the following day – that didn’t happen.

A spokesperson told Global News all there’s left to do is paint the lines and install the new traffic lights on the road.

It’s unclear why this wasn’t done at the time of the road paving in June.

Instead, the fresh asphalt on the street is being used as parking spot for construction vehicles.

Work crews with Ceveco are in the process of rebuilding Place du Canada, a $9,267,232 project that started in March 2014.

Both the park and the road were supposed to be finished in July, but workers missed that deadline.

A Ceveco employee told Global News the park will re-open in September.

De la Cathédrale between René-Lévesque Boulevard and de la Gauchitière Street is a short section of road, but it’s a critical access route that joins the Ville-Marie tunnel and the southern part of downtown.

If the road opens on August 15, it will be 450 consecutive days the road is closed to traffic.
