VERNON – A skydiver is recovering in hospital after he landed on power lines in Vernon Monday morning. Vernon RCMP were called to the 6600 block of Tronson Road around 11:45 a.m., finding the skydiver hanging more than 30 feet in the air.
“The actual chute itself was actually hanging over the top of the hydro line and then he was just hanging down. He’d actually struck the pole and we weren’t sure if he had gone unconscious or not,” says Sgt. Mike Moyer.
For safety reasons, first responders got the okay from B.C. Hydro before rescuing the man. Fire crews used a ladder to reach him.
Police say he was conscious and speaking when they brought him down. He was taken to hospital in is in stable condition.
“He’s an experienced skydiver,” says Moyer. “Obviously something occurred while he was finishing his jump.”
