Crews with Canadian Pacific Railway are on scene just east of Sparwood after a coal train derailment on Friday.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on a line operated by the company near the Elkview Coal Mine, three kilometres from Sparwood.
“There were no injuries to our crew and there are no public safety issues,” said CP spokesperson Jeremy Berry in a statement.
“CP’s emergency protocols were immediately enacted and all safety precautions and measures are being taken as our crews respond to the situation.”

Pat Vinet, who provided Global News with pictures of the derailment, says that people with Canadian Pacific were on scene within a couple of hours. He says that trains had been going slower through the area in recent days.
There is no word on when the line will be reopened to traffic.
