Pipe bomb scare false alarm at West Kelowna Pick-n-Pull

WEST KELOWNA — A pipe bomb scare at Pick-n-Pull auto parts yard in West Kelowna turned out to be a false alarm.

An employee found what appeared to be a pipe bomb inside a car he was dismantling on site. Police took pictures of the device and sent them to Vancouver’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and had called out the squad to investigate.

In the meantime, employees got a hold of the wife of the registered car owner.

“She confirmed it was not a pipe bomb,” says RCMP Corporal Joe Duncan. “I believe she said water or healing crystals were put in there.”

West Kelowna fire chief, Jason Brolund, says about a dozen customers were evacuated from the auto parts yard as crews investigated.
