Joel Plaskett has a few ‘notes’ for Halifax to soothe the transit strike woes

HALIFAX – Joel Plaskett loves Halifax.

That’s not really a secret if you’re a fan of his music, but his beloved home (in Dartmouth – a part of Halifax Regional Municipality) is in a bit of turmoil.

The municipality is in the third week of a transit strike that shows no signs of ending.

If you’re one of the region’s favourite musicians, what do you do to show your solidarity with the striking workers and the transitly-challenged? You write them a tune.

The 36-year-old indie rocker belted out his “Halifax Transit Strike Song” on CBC Radio Monday, singing “This is a song for the people that drive us around… For the brothers and the fathers and mothers and sisters who drive us across town.”

And while Haligonians may be divided on which side to take in the labour dispute, Plaskett looks to the positive: “Only thing good’s people getting in shape.”
