SASKATOON – A hotel slated to go up at College Quarters on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon is behind schedule. Construction of the 211 room hotel was supposed to start in May 2014.

The developer, P.R. Hotels, says as a third party leasing the land from the university, they have been at the mercy of agreements between the University of Saskatchewan and the City of Saskatoon.

The land was officially turned over to the developer this spring. The plan is to drive piles in the fall once the ground has frozen.

Once completed, the hotel will be 10 stories high with 126 rooms for a Holiday Inn Express and 85 under Staybridge Suites, which will be tailored to long-term stays.

At the time the project was announced, officials with P.R. Hotels said the building will feature many green innovations.

The build-out is estimated to take two years. The hotel complex was originally scheduled to open in spring 2016.

As part of the development, the city will be shutting water off in the area so an existing water line can be extended to the development site.

The field house will be closed starting at 4 p.m. July 31 to accommodate the work and is expected to reopen at 9 a.m. on Aug. 2. All programs and fitness classes will be cancelled during this time period.
