TORONTO – Samsung is gearing up to unveil the next generation of its flagship Galaxy smartphones.
The tech giant is gearing up to host one of its “Unpacked” events – where Samsung usually unveils new handsets – Thursday in New York City.
Samsung will live steam its event, starting live at 11 a.m. ET, on its website.
The tech giant sent out invitations to the media for the event last month. Like its competitors, Samsung’s invitation reveals little information about what will actually be unveiled at the event. However, the image shared by journalists – which shows a bunch of waves in a rectangular outline – has many speculating the company will unveil the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus smartphone.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in March and received good reviews from tech experts and Android fans.
The rumoured S6 Edge Plus is said to be a larger version than the S6 Edge – which features a display with curved edges – and have a number of internal upgrades.

When Samsung began sales of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones in April, there were expectations that the new flagship devices would lead a revival at Samsung’s handset business, which suffered a stunning decline last year. But sales weren’t as strong as expected.
But the company was hit by two problems with the series. The regular version of the phone, the Galaxy S6, wasn’t as popular as expected, while the S6 Edge model proved more difficult to produce and the company couldn’t keep up with demand.
Other reports suggest Samsung could be gearing up to unveil a new Galaxy Note smartphone, or even new Samsung smartwatches.
