Boater plucked from waters under Jacques Bizard Bridge

WATCH ABOVE: The Jacques Bizard Bridge linking Ile Bizard to the Island of Montreal was the site of a dramatic rescue early Sunday morning. A man who had fallen out of a boat was clinging to a pillar under the bridge.

MONTREAL – A young man is lucky to be alive after falling off a boat into the Rivière des Prairies early Sunday morning.

The 24-year-old had been boating with a friend, when they both fell overboard.

The friend swam to shore looking for help, while the victim who couldn’t swim managed to cling to a pillar under the Jacques Bizard Bridge.

Police were the first responders on the scene, and were able to bring the man a life jacket.

Firefighters then took over the rescue operation.

According to police, both men were drunk and neither was wearing a life jacket.

The young man was brought to hospital as a precautionary measure.
