MONTREAL – A body that was pulled out of the Rivière-des-Prairies river is believed to be Marc-André Simoneau, a 31-year-old Montreal North man who went missing Friday.
Police are waiting for the autopsy to confirm the man’s identity, but said certain physical attributes hint that it’s Simoneau.
“We have very good reason to believe it’s him,” said Yannick Parent, Richelieu Saint-Laurent police spokesperson.
He could not confirm what those physical attributes are, but said the autopsy should be done by the end of the day or early Friday at the latest.

“Considering the body and the fact that it’s been in the water a couple days, we have to get more technical,” Parent told Global News.
Simoneau went missing after leaving a work party in Beloeil, near McMasterville on the South Shore, around 11 p.m. to head to his girlfriend’s house in Île-Perrot, just off Montreal’s West Island.

His crashed car was found early Saturday morning on Highway 40 near Côte-Vertu at 12:41 a.m by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) with just his cell phone left inside.
The death is considered suspicious, but not necessarily a homicide.
“We are not looking for a suspect or considering it a murder,” said Parent.
“We are not there.”
Richelieu-Saint-Laurent police, Montreal police and the SQ are collaborating in the investigation.
